Maybank continues to be a defensive dividend play

Lack of catalysts to drive share price higher.

TA Securities said the bank’s push into Islamic wealth and syariah-compliant offerings, could be a meaningful differentiator as it also leverages on group-wide infrastructure, to broaden product offerings as well as accelerate value creation, in the increasingly competitive regional wealth management market, where many other players have stepped up their game.

Identifying the growth drivers

Maybank has identified wealth management, global market FX sales and mid-market segment as its super growth areas.

We forecast a 3-year net profit CAGR of 6.1% over FY24-27F, underpinned by 6.8% CAGR in net interest income.

Reiterate Add, as we expect potential write-backs of management overlay and capital management initiatives to enhance its dividend yields and ROE.

Maybank posts 4% rise in 2Q net profit, declares 30 sen dividend

By Syafiqah Salim

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 26): Malaysia’s biggest bank by assets Malayan Banking Bhd (KL:MAYBANK) said on Tuesday its net profit rose nearly 4% in the second quarter from a year earlier as higher income offset rising provisions for bad debts.

Net profit for the three months ended June 30, 2025 (2QFY2025) was RM2.63 billion, or 21.75 sen per share, according to an exchange filing.

Year-on-year, net interest income inched up 1.1% while non-interest income climbed 18% during the quarter.

Maybank also reiterated its target for a return on equity of at least 11.3% for FY2025.

A first interim cash dividend of 30 sen per share was also declared with entitlement and payment dates to be announced later.

Malayan Banking (MAY MK) 2Q25: Supported By Robust Trading Income Maybank’s

2Q25 net profit was in line, underpinned primarily by strong non-interest income growth and cost discipline.

We maintain our HOLD call and target price of RM10.52 (1.18x 2026F P/B, 10.5% ROE).

The stock is trading near its historical mean P/B, which we view as fair, as it reflects modest earnings growth expectations, balanced by healthy provision buffers and an attractive 7% dividend yield.
