Novo Nordisk slides further on US competition, new CEO concerns

By Jacob Gronholt-Pedersen and Maggie Fick

Analysts warned of persistent competition from copycat drugs in the United States.

Novo became Europe’s most valuable listed company following the launch of Wegovy in 2021 but its shares have fallen by two-thirds since peaking in June last year on concerns the drugmaker is losing ground in the obesity drug race.

Novo Nordisk -31.7%:

The Danish drugmaker tumbled after cutting its annual forecast again—the second downgrade in a few months.

Its duopoly with Eli Lilly is tipping in favor of the U.S. firm, whose drugs Zepbound and Mounjaro are outperforming Wegovy and Ozempic.

The market also fears looming patent expirations for semaglutide in 2026, a surge in counterfeits, and potential political headwinds in the U.S.

One bright spot: FDA approval for Alhemo, designed to prevent or reduce bleeding episodes.

Novo Nordisk, a global leader in diabetes and obesity treatments, is trading at a deep discount to both its historical multiples and intrinsic value.

The ADR is now priced at $47.05, reflecting a normalized P/E ratio of just 13.4×, down from a five-year average closer to 25–30×.

The stock has fallen more than 20% in the past month, largely in reaction to early-stage competitive pipeline news, a move that appears disconnected from Novo’s actual fundamentals.

Wegovy maker Novo Nordisk to reduce costs after $95 billion stock loss

by Jacob Gronholt-Pedersen and Maggie Fick

Novo has been hit by copycats of its GLP-1 drugs Wegovy for weight-loss and Ozempic for diabetes.

U.S. law bars pharmacies from replicating approved drugs, but has allowed 'compounding' for patients needing custom doses or formulations.

Novo reported second-quarter sales of 76.86 billion Danish crowns ($11.92 billion), up 18% from last year, below analysts initial expectations.

It confirmed a 2025 sales growth forecast of between 8% and 14%, which was cut in a profit warning last week from the previous 13%-21%. It was the second time this year that the company cut its sales forecast.

Second-quarter earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) stood at 33.45 billion crowns, up 29% from a year ago.

Ozempic maker is slashing prices after sales setback

European giant Novo Nordisk vowed to lower prices for its popular weight-loss drug to reach more U.S. customers.

by Noah Weidner

While company-wide revenues rose 13%, sales from its obesity care and diabetes GLP-1 divisions slowed, rising 56% and 8% respectively in the quarter.

It now expects full-year growth of 8% to 14%, down from 13% to 21%.

Novo's management makeover came after a botched "collaboration" with telehealth firm Hims & Hers (HIMS).

Instead, Novo accuses Hims & Hers of "deceptive promotion and selling of illegitimate, knockoff versions of Wegovy that put patient safety at risk."

CFO Karsten Munk Knudsen said that the prices of Wegovy and Ozempic will keep falling for the next couple of years, with the company hoping lower prices will increase access, particularly in the U.S. market.

There, coverage for weight loss drugs is still relatively limited, as the drugs retail for more than $1,000. Although, those willing to pay out of pocket in cash can get a deal: $499 per month.

Novo Nordisk A/S (NVO) Delivers 18% Sales Growth in H1 2025

by Bob Karr

On August 6, the company stated that it delivered 18% sales growth in H1 2025. The company has lowered its full-year outlook because of lower growth expectations for its GLP-1 treatments in H2 2025.

1 billion people are living with obesity globally, which includes over 100 million living in the US.

Novo Nordisk is slashing the cost of Ozempic to $499 a month for patients paying in cash.

They can now get Ozempic for about half of its US list price through Novo’s cash-pay pharmacy NovoCare, the company said Monday.

It’s also partnering with GoodRx to offer Ozempic and its sister weight-loss drug Wegovy for the same price at pharmacies across the US.

The price change comes less than a week after weight-loss rival Eli Lilly raised the list price for its obesity shot in the UK by as much as 170%.
