Until recent weeks, Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) stood as one of the best-performing Dow stocks over the last 12 months. However, the giant chipmaker's massive losses in its foundry business revealed earlier this month dampened investors' enthusiasm.

Analysts still like Intel, though. The average 12-month price target for the stock is nearly 21% higher than the current share price. Although I'm unsure if Intel will hit that target over the next 12 months, I'm bullish about the stock overall.

For one thing, Intel expects its foundry business to be highly profitable by 2030. I believe the company's investment in manufacturing semiconductor chips for others is a smart long-term move.

I also like Intel's AI prospects. Its new Gaudi 3 AI chip could take some data center market share away from Nvidia.

Edge AI -- pushing AI processing to where data is generated -- should present another big opportunity for Intel over the next several years.

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) faces a potential class action lawsuit over reported instability issues in its latest processor generations.

The issue, which Intel attributes to elevated voltages, affects not only high-end models but also mainstream 65W CPUs, potentially impacting tens of millions of units.

Announcing a patch due in mid-August to fix the instability issues. The company has also promised to honor all Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) requests and replace damaged CPUs.

INTEL shares sank nearly 28 per cent on Friday and were set for their worst day ever after the company suspended dividend and slashed workforce to fund a costly turnaround for its chip-making business.

The company was set to lose about US$35 billion in market value as its disappointing forecast and planned 15 per cent job cuts raised worries about its ability to catch up with Taiwan’s TSMC and other chipmakers.

Shares of other chip firms also fell, with Arm, Micron Technology, GlobalFoundries and US-listed shares of TSMC trading down between 2.8 per cent and 6.7 per cent.
