An increase from the current 7 per cent to 8 per cent next January, and subsequently to nine per cent in 2024.

Government expenditure was expected to increase to more than 20 per cent of GDP by 2030, at which point one in four Singaporeans would be 65 or older.

Health care expenditure is expected to hit S$27 billion (US$20 billion) in 2030, up from S$11.3 billion in 2019.

“For every dollar we spend on public services, about 80 cents is funded by tax and the remaining 20 cents is funded through the [net investment returns from the reserves]” .
