any and all of the US airlines services are super f**k type... pay more for SQ flight and u will enjoy the ride better. u can consume all of their alcohol onboard if u so wish, without paying an additional cent...

u want a orange squash on any of the american airlines, first u need to get the attention of the flight attendant and then pay for it.

it's a long ride, u shd ask around and seek opinion of folks who have flown us airlines before...

chiron, you can pop over to sgtravelcafe - probably can get more eyeballs for your questions and more advice there since it's a forum for independent travellers:

Chiron,

Are you talking about NY state or NYC? Are you familiar with left hand drive? Is there a drive partner on the road with you?

I presume you are landing at JFK if you take NYC? You can drive pretty easily to Niagara falls from there but do remember that the jet lag will take its toll. I used to travel the Sin/JFK/EWR route pretty often for business and I always sleep overnight at the airport hotel before I drive down to Delaware thro' New Jersey for business meetings the next morning.

Do remember to take The Maid of The Mist at Niagara falls.

My family loved SF when we were living in the US. Do plan to spend about 3 days there to take in the sights. LA is fun. If you plan to do the theme parks, it might take about 3 days.

LV is lots of fun... 2 days with a stop over at Hoover dam might be worth it.

Do let us know your plans in more detail so that we can give some recommendations.

Cheers,
mm

Hi Chiron,

1) I will be merging this post with the Travel thread.

2) If you are going in late October, you may be able to catch the autumn sceneries north of Toronto. It is very beautiful in late autumn.

3) If you fly to Toronto, you can take a day tour to Niagara Falls rather than to drive there. Gray Line tours come to mind.

4) If you are going to San Francisco, dont forget Carmel and places like that along the coast. Very nice down there. Again, you can take a day tour from San Francisco.

5) You may also want to think about going to Las Vegas and maybe even pop over to Hawaii on the way back.

Take care,
Winston

Thanxs for your advice.

K: SIA recently changed their non-stop flights to US to business class, now out of budget. Considering EVA, ANA etc. but US domestic need to take US airlines.

MM: Only NYC. My Father in law said Toronto side , the Niagara fall scenary is much more beautiful. So driving there from NYC, then cross over to Canada is easier than flying to Toronto right? I presumed, at least logistically.
As for SF/LA/LV, will spend most of my time in that area. Hoover as well.

W: Tot of Haiwaii, but too tight a schedule, so dropped the idea. Another time. Thanxs for the merge.

cheers

Hi Chiron,

1) Can you take EVA from Singapore directly or do u have to fly to Taipei first ? On EVA, they have the Super Economy seats. That means you get Business Class seats for Economy fare.

2) Yes, the Niagara falls scenery from the Canadian side is very nice. Yes, as suggested by MM, you should try to take the Maid of the Mist as well as the trip to the Gorge. Forgot the name of the Gorge though..

3) I strongly recommend that you take a day tour to Carmel from San Francisco. You must not miss Carmel.

Take care,
Winston

1) Have to go thru taipei. Yeah me aiming for the super economy class.

2) ic. I will cross over to Canada then. Will explore driving to Niagara from NYC. Checked the distance, abt 1500km to and fro, guess issit too much to cover in one day? Near Niagara where to stay if one to split into 2 days?

3) Carmel, town by the sea? Will explore, since I wil hv about 10 days in SF area.

Thanxs!

Hi Chiron,

1) Go into the Gray Line Tours website and see whether they have day tours or overnight tours to Niagara Falls from NYC. Better to take a tour than to drive. It is a long journey, they drive on the wrong side and you dont know the way. 1500 kms means 2 days of driving :(

2) I recall that the journey from Toronto to Niagara Falls is not that long though..

Take care,
Winston

when at LA...visit their Manhanttan Beach...ask the locals for direction...you will get the californai-a spirit... loud coloured cadillacs or whatever is in vogue now... gulp your beers in any of their many pubs facing the ocean.... ...enjoy... if u dont drive there, remember that cabs dont just stop for you on the streets especially at night...u need to call for a cab...or simply get a LA girl to ride u home...hahahaha...
