it is very important for 1st timers to indulge in only very good grade durians, such as D24. this is because there are always rotten apples everywhere...no exception for durians too.

first impressions are also very lasting, and so, if u had a bad durian in your 1st tasting, chances are you will not grow to like durians later.

so lapap : u said u had 5 seeds and felt you had 1 year's intake...maybe u should just try D24 the next time.

mangosteen.... u cant get the colourings off your clothings...the stains are permanent...so, dont wear your tux and gowns when feasting on this Queen of Fruits...

Hi K, I did ate D24 I tried those bitter ones and the sweeter ones. Think I prefer the bitter ones... There's still the mountain cat king variety - looks big and sprayed with a blue paint. Is that good, oh-durian god?

i havent had a single durian thus far this year....so much for talking cock here...

i usually just stick to D24... have not tried those mountain cat ..especially those sprayed with blue coats... the more they spray, the less keen i am .... bcos, it costs only about $2 for a spray can....hahaha...

bitter or sweet...individual's taste buds i guess...but quite accepted that only the connoisseurs prefer bitter ones, like u...

i prefer the those with a whiff of alcohol....i think they call it XO...but i am unsure if XO is actually a specific durian breed...

The mountain cat sells for 1 kg $5 or something. It's so huge, can easily cost up to $15-20 for one durian. Siao loh

Huh .. Mao Shan Wang (MSW) .. so cheap $$$$5 ....

Last weekend when I was at parkway parade, nearer to the hawker ctr section, there is a durian stall selling the MSW at $10/kg .. I oredi thot quite cheap coz the 4 seasons @ Joo Chiat selling @ $15/kg .. tat's 33% savings!!!! Wow .... Earlier this mth, i ate only $15/kg, in a matter of weeks, it's $20 for MSW/kg ... cut throat price lah @ 4 Seasons!

Haha, dunno whether I see wrongly or not. I ate at a stall at Geylang Lor 5, next to the temple one. There are many bench and got a place to wash your hands. Free mineral water somemore But I confirm the 4 seasons stall, 15/kg I walked pass there every week, which piqued my interest in durians, haha!

Anyway, last week, I was at the 4 season's durian place @ Joo Chiat. My fren who eats durian frequently was tasked to select the durian .. Mao Shan Wang .... heard its really gd .. 1 kg $15. This durian's hefty weight of 3kg++ cost us $48.

Half the fruit was pretty satisfying, the other half was very mushy ... tooo ripe .. sigh! The guy guaranteed us it was going to be the most satisfying durian we ever bought! Gee .... i beg to defer as i felt quite cheated w his recommendation.

So before we left, i approached another guy whom i witnessed serving another customer equipped with better durian knowledge. Bought the D24 durian and man was it a much better choice at a far cheaper price.

Sometimes cheaper durians can be juz as good .... so i doubt i would return to this place again n patronise the geylang area instead ..... sun's review on the balestier rd store .. Combat durian ..... Anyone's been there before?
