the flood barriers and raising of ground they are building now in Orchard supposed to be fully ready only in June this year (before the usual monsoon season). but they have some other mechanisms now... wonder it worked or not.

Australia flooding is really serious...

this world is really being turned upside down by human actions... drought, snow, rain, hurricanes, all in unusual places...

I was alerted to this Youtube video that showed what the sea level at the East Coast were like :-

It has risen beyond the park builders' expectations.

That is a freak high tide. It will be even more interesting when you see it high rain fall.

some years back when there was freak high tide, dakota canal(old airport road) was flooded...it reached the grounded level of those SIT flats next to the canal....

hence i strongly believe our Marina Barrage is to help to prevent rising tide flooding into our CBD area by blocking the inflow.....But we somehow forgot about the equally high outflow cause by rain.

just to add, our shore line have been constantly shifting inwards since those days I hang around the beach....hence Npark has been shifting the cycling/walking path in wards.

Floods returning to Singapore

FLOODS have returned to Singapore amid heavy, incessant rain since Saturday.

Readers of The Straits Times Online have been sending in reports of flooding, which seem mostly concentrated in the eastern part of Singapore.

Awakening Cryztalrella wrote on The Straits Times' Facebook fanpage: 'Flooding along the whole road at Bedok Town park towards Bedok North Ave 3, i.e. after the PIE overhead bridge towards B07 Bus stop (Bus 18, 28, etc). It has become inaccessible during heavy downpour.'

On Twitter, quelynxandever and iamsurebbyrz reported flooding at the Singapore Expo, and Loyang Avenue near Changi prison.

User CW of citizen journalism site STOMP also sent in pictures of a flooded carpark at Tampines Street 32, which showed it submerged in water.

CW wrote: 'The basement carpark was flooded during these two days of non-stop rain.'

On their website, the National Environment Agency said widespread moderate to heavy rain is expected between 11.30am and midnight on Sunday.

Flash floods in several areas

SINGAPORE: The PUB said flash floods had occurred in several areas on Sunday, amid continued widespread moderate to heavy rain.

Thee areas included Airport Boulevard, Changi Village, the slip road near Tampines Avenue 12, the TPE slip road near the Punggol exit, and Ang Mo Kio Ave 5, leading to Buangkok Green industrial Park.

The Singapore's Meteorological Services Division said the rain was expected to continue till midnight.

PUB said earlier that flash floods may occur in low-lying areas in the event of heavy rain.
