Playbook does has some features that is Enterprise friendly. What worries me is that it seems like a work in progress instead of something that is ready for launching. Mike Lazaridis held the playbook throughout the presentation without any demonstration. Also, there are questions on battery life and QNX OS. It was mentioned that they have been working on QNX for tablet more than 1 year ago, but the acquisition was announced only this year. We shall wait for the shipment of test units and reviews by the programmers.

RIM is working very hard, but are they over promising?

Everything that was rumoured about the BlackBerry tablet seems to be true but there's a lot that didn't make it into the rumours.

Dan Dodge runs the QNX team at RIM and after the announcement we tracked him down for the key details, so while we couldn't prise a PlayBook out of the glass case, here's the in-depth technical breakdown of what's interesting about the PlayBook that you won't see in the basic specs.

At this moment, I won't be too concern about whether it is over promised.

Parts and parcels of tech gadgets.

Just trade it as it comes.

Anyway, the product will only be launched in US in 2011 (probably Q1) and later in UK, Europe.

So, Asia will still not be getting it early.

It is not going to contribute to the Xmas quarter.

Immediate news to trade will be India and Middle East.

dont mean to rain on anyone's parade here...

but if you are cognizant of IT sector, particularly product companies, you will have realized that only the market leader gets the bulk of the consumers' $$.... RIMM's latest is par se by the time it is out of the production floor....by then, apple would probably have a new gadget...or one that continues to wow the public and earn their dollars...

i've said before and i'll say again...RIMM had it good, years ago...when it gave us "pushmail" solution.... years on....it did nothing else to transform itself further.... such companies will not survive in the long run....

i wont bet on RIMM

now that RIMM has showed all the cards, they have to deliver it as soon as possible. I think RIMM still has some more downside before the company can make some punches.

This is not totally unexpected.

RIM VP Confirms PlayBook QNX OS Will Replace BlackBerry OS

http://www.intomobile.com/2010/09/28/bl ... irmed-rim/

Notes:
- RIMM will have a 2 OS approach for some time (the old OS and the 'new' QNX)
- RIMM is going through a transition period; whether they will make it... depends on execution
- AAPL went through the above when Steve Jobs return (and along the way addition of key mgnt staffs).
- Watch the space but don't think it will fly above $80 within a year.
