196,500 / 22 years/ 12 months = ~ SGD 745 only.

Why go through the risk of being found out for a mere sum?

Don't make sense. Didn't SPH have a whistleblowing policy?

The whistle blower needs a captive audience. Is corruption eating away at the roots of our societal foundations? I worry about the impact of wealthy immigrants on our institutions - the judiciary, the police and the civil service at large. I can feel it already.

Lena,

You made an interesting observation. Would you care to elaborate?

I read 2 pieces of news in the ST today that raised my eyebrow. One is the above and the other is the Policeman who pocketed a mere $70 from a good Samaritan from the public who returned a lost wallet.

I feel that this does not bode well for our society at large.

I feel that commercial organizations these days do not place much value on integrity and honesty; rather they will look more towards how well an employee can perform in terms of his job role and in growing the revenues/profits for the organization as more important determinants of whether one can rise within the ranks or command greater roles and responsibilities.

It’s really quite useless if you are smart, intelligent, resourceful and a “PR-person”, yet be dishonest and lack integrity; because as Warren Buffett says – you can take 22 years (in the case of this SPH man) to build up your reputation, but literally destroy it utterly in just 5 minutes (of voluntary confession).

If Mr. Peter Khoo had taken this to heart, perhaps he would not have engaged in these activities which have brought shame and disrepute to himself and his family.
