All eyes are on Jakarta Governor election this week.

The incumbent Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, a.k.a., Ahok, a close ally of President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, is now in a tight horse-race against Agus Yudhoyono, the son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Partai Demokrat and Anies Baswedan, from the Gerindra Party that was Jokowi’s main rival in 2014.

Ahok, a Christian politician, is running on the platform of infrastructure spending. His opponents, while both moderate Muslims, are riding the wave of Islamic populism to unseat him.
