Travel Savings Secret By Wendy Perrin

January is a great time for travel deals.

There's a week or two after the Christmas/New Year’s holiday that folks in the travel biz call “dead week.” It’s an annual window of vacation value, from about January 6 to 16, when New Year’s vacationers have gone home, beach resorts are empty, and prices plunge.

According to TripAdvisor data, travelers save about 25% if they take their trips during these weeks.

For example, the average cost of a seven-night winter trip to New York City is $3,271, but if you visit between January 17 and 24, it’ll cost you an average of $1,955. It’s a similar story in Key West, where you’ll save about 14% if you travel between January 10 and 17.

Mid to late January is one of the least expensive times of the year to fly within the northern hemisphere (except to ski spots like Aspen and Vail).

If I didn’t have kids in school, I’d snag a last-minute sale fare or use miles to get to Mexico, Hawaii, or a Mediterranean cultural capital—think Rome, Florence, Istanbul—where you’ll find none of the usual museum lines, plus world-class post-holiday shopping for up to 70% off.

What to Do if Your Flight is Cancelled by Weather By Wendy Perrin

Even if you weren’t stranded by the latest blizzard, you’re probably scared of being stranded by the next.

What to do when a snowstorm cancels 7,600 flights and you’re battling a gazillion people trying to find seats on planes?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Don’t wait on hold with the airline while the few empty seats to your destination disappear.

Instead call one of the airline’s English-speaking overseas reservations numbers (say, in England or Australia)—whichever office is open and is not dealing with a snowstorm.

Gary Leff of View From The Wing says he’s had good luck lately calling Delta in Hong Kong and Singapore. (Use Skype so the call is cheap.)

Should that fail, contact Brett Snyder of Cranky Concierge. For a $150 fee, he’ll work his magic to get you on the first possible flight out.

Some of the people Brett’s been rerouting around Snowmageddon have even arrived ahead of schedule.

Budget Traveling in Europe

When traveling around Europe with the Eurorail pass, remember traveling at night can save you the expense of a hotel room.

Many trains traveling at night also have a car that has beds for this specific reason.

Buying a ticket for the sleeper car is alot less expensive than a hostel or a hotel room.

Plus, when you wake up you will be in a new city or country not having wasted a day.

How to Beat Jet Lag

The World Health Organization recommends exercise for all travelers.

Endorphins are a great way to fight tiredness, and a run around the new neighborhood is a good way to see the sights.

The World Health Organization recommends exercise for all travelers, saying that a workout during the day helps promote a good night's sleep and helps get people on a schedule.

For travelers, however, the organization recommends avoiding strenuous exercise within two hours of trying to go to sleep to ease people into the time transition.

Koh Samui

I have a friend who's in Koh Samui and she recommended that it's better to stay at Lamai beach.

Chongmoen Beach is another good area but quieter.

Varinda and Bundhari Resort are two good places to stay at lamai although Bundhari is a bit far from the nearest town of Chaweng.

Good massage place at Lamai there called Ping Ka La
