Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) has acquired an additional 812,000 shares or 0.3% in precision parts maker Notion VTec Bhd, bringing its holding to 18.15 million shares or 6.76%.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, it was revealed that the acquisition comprised three blocks.

The first block involving 89,800 shares in Notion VTec, was made on Dec 29, 2014, while another block of 315,000 shares was acquired on Dec 30 and 407,200 shares on Dec 31.

Notion VTec’s largest shareholder is its managing director William Choo Wing Hong who holds a 11.98% stake, followed by its executive director John Choo Wing Onn with a 10.2% stake and its executive chairman Thoo Chow Fah who owns 9.49% in the company.

Japan’s Nikon Corp holds a 9.44% stake in Notion VTec.

Notion VTec shares were last traded down 9.89% at 41 sen on Jan 5, 2015, giving it a market capitalisation of RM110 million.

Notion VTec charts new three-year high amid rally in tech stocks

For the first quarter ended Dec 31, 2023 (1QFY2024), Notion VTec reported a net profit of RM8.02 million, compared to a net loss of RM3.66 million over the same quarter in FY2023.

Revenue surged by 12.5% to RM93.79 million compared with RM83.35 million, mainly contributed by its hard disk drive and automotive segments.

It added at the time that it expects a turnaround in FY2024 on the back of “robust revenue and profit growth”.

Frankly Speaking: Business unusual for Notion

There was a turnaround in the HDD and EMS sectors that had contributed to the improved performance in the first half of its operations.

For the first six months until March 31, 2024, this year, Notion VTec registered a net profit of RM22.6 million on a turnover of RM205.4 million. It has staged a turnaround compared to the loss of RM7.8 million on a turnover of RM168 million in the corresponding period last year.

Even if the profit doubles this year, does this warrant a fourfold jump in the valuation of the company?

Notion VTec is valued at a forward price-earnings multiple of more than 30 times.

The HDD segment is a crowded field .

Notion VTec’s 3Q net profit surges 11-fold

Notion VTec’s net profit surged to RM20.1mil in the third quarter ended June 30 compared with RM1.82mil in the same quarter last year.

Revenue jumped 62.8% to RM135.5mil against RM83.2mil while earnings per share (EPS) climbed to 3.90 sen from 0.35 sen posted last year.
