JPY 01 (May 08 - Oct 11)

TOL:-

Why's the JPY so strong ?

Who's buying Japanese Goods & Services ?

And who wants to invest in Japan anyways ?

So is it strong because of the unwinding of carry-trades ?

If so, will those carry trades return in the future ? Borrow at 0% and then try to make 5% in the AUD, EUR or Commodities at high leverage ?

Why borrow in JPY when u can do it in USD ?

And if those carry-trades does not return, will we then have a new normal ie. a perpetually high JPY ?

DJ MARKET TALK: BOJ Unlikely To Tolerate USD/JPY Under 76.00 - SocGen

0718 GMT [Dow Jones] The Bank of Japan is unlikely to tolerate USD/JPY under 76.00, says Societe Generale, even if the USD is generally weaker.

However, the bank says the Japanese authorities may wait until after the EU Summit on Oct. 26 before acting.

USD/JPY is now at 76.29, from Friday's all time low of 75.78.

well...if dollar index continues to fall, as it has recently... 76 jpy is very real possibility...

unless come this wed, the market decides to buy dollar... i guess, japan is telling the world not to bet on jpy to rally whatever happens this wed...

and i think many traders have already given this pair a miss...when you look at the chart of usd/jpy... it looks just like Citibank's chart.... flatline...

TOL:-

How big is the pea-shooter of the Japanese ?

It's only about US$600b.

Do you think that US$600b is adequate when the daily currency turnover is US$4t ?
