Are you kidding ? Thot we are in Jarkarta or Shangahi.

Guess it is ok because this kind of flood is only "once in 50 years ...."

Floods in central S'pore

MANY parts of central Singapore were flooded following heavy downpour early on Wednesday.

The rain was especially heavy over the Orchard Road and Rochor area, which were submerged in floodwaters of up to half a metre deep.

The National Environment Agency, in a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, said almost 100 mm of rain fell within a two-hour period from about 9 am to 11 am.

'The amount of rainfall is approximately more than 60% of the average monthly rainfall for June,' said the NEA.

The heavy rain caused flooding at the Orchard Road and the Scotts Road intersection for about an hour making it impassable to traffic. Other parts of central Singapore, including Coronation Road West, Fourth Avenue, Kings Road, Kheam Hock Road and Veerasamy Road were also affected, bringing traffic to a crawl.

PUB, Traffic Police and SCDF officers were at the various sites to provide help to motorists.

PUB advises the public to exercise caution as flash floods may still occur in the event of heavy storms. The cause of the flood is still being investigated.

The public can obtain the latest weather reports, including heavy rain warnings, by tuning in to radio broadcasts, calling NEA's weather forecast hotline at 6542 7788, visiting the NEA website at http://www.nea.gov.sg or accessing the mobile weather service (Weather@SG - weather.nea.gov.sg).

The public can also call PUB's 24-hour Call Centre at 1800-284 6600 to report obstructions in drains or to check the flood situation.

Why Orchard Road will never flood…

By Fong Foong Mei

Well, almost never.

For a flood to hit anywhere in Singapore, it takes a combination of high tides and about 100mm of rainfall within an hour.

And Orchard Road is protected by its mighty rain drain - the Stamford Canal.

Thanks to it, shoppers haven't had to slosh through waist-deep waters since 1960s.

But what makes a good drain?

According to a Ministry of Environment (ENV) spokesman, it's the flow capacity of a drain and not its storage capacity.

In other words, it isn't the size of the boat that matters, but the motion of the ocean.

And Orchard Road's supersucker had plenty of that.

It can empty an Olympic-sized pool before your cup of latte has time to cool.

It's very handy around this time, with La Nina is expected to bring about more wet days in the next two months.

La Nina is the weather phenomenon responsible for the heavier rains and cooler temperatures around the region.

Already, it has increased rainfall by 25 to 30 percent this year, noted a Meteorological Service spokesman.

Singapore's worst ever flood happened in 1978 when 512 mm fell in 24 hours.

Seven people died in that flood.

To prevent such disasters from recurring, the Government has spent some $1.1 billion since 1984 on about 800 km of drains all over Singapore.

How can you do your bit to avoid doing your shopping in sampans?

Simple. Just don't chuck your rubbish in the drains. Let the rain drains do their work, and go with the flow.

SINGAPORE: Flash floods caused by heavy rain on Wednesday morning left a trail of damage and disruption in parts of Singapore.

In just three hours, between 8am and 11am, 100 millimetres of rainfall were recorded.

Good digging of old news, 802.
So the condition was not met - 100mm over 3 hrs this morning vs over 1 hr.
Also, was there high tide this morning??
Never say never? 8-)
