Weather situation may get worse: Vivian Balakrishnan By Angelina Dass
THE flash floods that occurred today were worse than those that happened at Orchard Road last year.
This morning, a total of 124ml of rain fell over central areas of Singapore - this is equivalent to 80 per cent of the amount of rainfall that usually falls in the month of June.
Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources says that weather patterns in Singapore have changed and that it is assumed that the rain fall may get worse in the future.
The drainage system will have to be changed in order to cope, he said.
He was speaking to the media on June 5, Sunday about the weather and flash floods that occurred this morning.
