Buying enthusiasm is bad!
DRAM contract prices have fallen across the board.
TrendForce estimates that the decline in Q1 next year will expand to 8%~13%.

Malaysia: Local tech stocks poised for double-digit earnings growth as semiconductor market recovers — CIMB Securities

By Choy Nyen Yiau

Automated test equipment (ATE) is expected to lead with a 41% year-on-year profit growth in 2025, followed by outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) at 26% and electronics manufacturing services (EMS) at 23%.

its top picks include Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (KL:MPI), Genetec Technology Bhd (KL:GENETEC) and VS Industry Bhd (KL:VS).

It likes MPI for its exposure to the OSAT sector, which could benefit from higher capital expenditure by cloud service providers driven by generative AI and a recovery in the server market.

For Genetec, the research house expects the stock to benefit from growth in electric vehicle (EV) assembly and components manufacturing, driven by a leading North American EV client.

"In the EMS segment, we like VSI as a proxy for supply chain diversification, owing to its growing manufacturing footprint across Southeast Asia and margin-accretive potential from its vertical integration initiatives," CIMB Securities noted.

Analysts say new US regulations on importing of advanced chips for data centres ‘unclear’

By ALLISON LAI

Malaysian companies building data centres must adhere to strict US compliance standards.
Otherwise, they risk being affected by proposed broad-brush US policies aimed at non-compliant entities.

Chipmakers such as Nvidia, IBM and Intel, which supply essential chips for data centres, already adhere to US regulations.

The USA has officially imposed a full access restriction on Malaysia for the AI chips

by Alif Azizan

Previously, we mentioned how Malaysia could have limited access to the data centre. Now, it seems the USA has fully exercised its authority.

Countries around the world are divided into three levels.
a. Level 1 is for 18 allied countries such as Japan, Taiwan, the UK and Australia which are given unlimited chip access.
b. Level 2 is for countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Israel and the UAE where each country has a limit on the computing power to access the chips.
c. Level 3 is for enemy countries like Russia, China and Iran, which are prevented from accessing US-tech chips.

Malaysia does not need to worry that its dream of becoming a regional data centre will be affected because Microsoft, Google and Amazon have been given permission to build AI data centres without any limits on the country's computing power.

However, US-based companies can only place 50% of their computing power overseas. They can also set no more than 25% of their computing power overseas in a Tier 1 country and a maximum of 7% of their computing power in a Tier 2 country.

New US chip curbs aimed at China

Those curbs limit the sale of AI chips by the likes of Nvidia and other advanced makers to data centers in most countries.

Capping the export of AI capabilities?

No impact on Semicon, minimal disruption to PIE

We do not anticipate any tangible impact from the US’ AI Diffusion ruling on the domestic ATE/OSAT supply chain, as their exposure to GPU assembly, packaging and test is negligible.

We maintain our BUYs on Frontken, SAM Engineering, and VSI.

We also expect minimal disruption to PIE Industrial (BUY; TP: MYR7.50), as its order pipeline is not tied to AI servers.

Is Malaysia’s chip sector prepared for the storm?

Malaysia falls in the middle tier, facing export caps and licensing requirements, potentially disrupting its semiconductor sector, which plays a pivotal role in global chip packaging and testing.

For Malaysia, the stakes are high. As the sixth-largest semiconductor exporter globally, the nation contributes 13% of the world’s chip testing and packaging services and processes 23% of all American chips.
