Bank of America (BAC)

my unqualified TOL thoughts...

many investment houses and even banks(like C) all suffering from toxic assets indigestion ... bac happily made 2 acquisitions...in less than 1 year...

now, this tells me... BAC is strong... or they are positioning themselves for great businesses ahead...sure, the purchases will have integration issues, but overall, this new outfit will be something to be reckon with...

after some more diggings, i think i will wana look at BAC seriously as a asset to be had...

k,

For your consideration before you plonk down serious $:
1) ML's vendor-financed sale of toxic assets can still come back to haunt
2) Commercial bank + Investment bank = not very good bedfellows ---> culture clash, wide gap in remuneration
BAC say ML's staff are the "crown jewels" - can hold onto them when better times come???
3) Integration of all those string of challenging purchases made within such a short time ---> doesn't this look Herculean??
4) BAC's leader Ken Lewis' details
a) Graduated with finance degree from Georgia State U in 1969 (neutral)
b) Don't seem to have Ivy League MBA (a positive!)
c) Considered an "outsider" in US banking circles (-ve because may not be "in the loop")
d) Offer US$29 for ML when it's trading at US$17 in the market (why???)
It's not the bottom if you are not crying.

i like BAC...for the fact that they are consolidating their position, written off ( i suppose) all those bad papers that's to be wiped out of their assets sheet...and now as quietly as they can...buy up other troubled banks...shore up more capital now...and grow internationally again... dont forget, it used to be quite an international banking institution before they f**k** up somehow and retreated back to american soil...

this baby....really can consider LEAPs...and then calenderize each month along the way....like placing a deposit and collecting monthly interests and upon LEAPs expiration... either u have recvd the full coupon and collect back your original loan or kana toto....and huat !
