Passed by the Crocs Shop at Joy City, Xidan BJ recently. There was quite a lot of people inside and they were buying too.

The new Crocs also looks much better than the original "Hummer" Crocs...

I was surprised with the crowd. I thought people would be buying fakes instead. Well I guess people now have the money to fork out RMB300 for a pair of genuine Crocs.

So Sales may be dropping elsewhere but in China, they could be doing quite ok.

DENVER, July 16 (UPI) -- Colorful, comfortable Crocs hit the recession running, but at too much of a run, the U.S. shoemaker's chief executive officer said.
In an e-mail, Crocs Inc. CEO John Duerden said the shoe industry was "surprised by the severity of the downturn." Moreover, "it affected us more because the brand had been gearing up for a continuation of the extraordinary growth in the prior years," The Washington Post reported Thursday.

The company that produces brightly colored plastic clogs made of an antimicrobial foam called Croslite hit the market at a flat out dash, jumping from a quirky start-up to a company selling 100 million pairs of shoes in seven years.

The company's 2006 stock offering raised $200 million, a record for a shoe company.

But times have changed. After gearing up for growth, the recession clobbered the clogmaker.

In 2007, the company reported a profit of $168.2 million. In 2008, the company lost $185.1 million and cut 2,000 jobs.

Auditors have questioned the company's ability to stay afloat, but Duerden hasn't given up yet.

"The bottom line is, people talk about Crocs," he told the newspaper. "They either love them or hate them, but it's in the vernacular."

Seriously, Crocs is doing very well in China. I'm talking about the real Crocs not the genuine fakes

Jump to $5. I saw the price action coming but I do not have the guts to go long given the broader market strength.

Ha Ha ... you have not seen my previous post. The new Crocs are very fashionable unlike the old "Hummer" Crocs.

And they are selling like hot cakes in China. Everytime, I pass a Croc Shop in China, there's always people inside buying stuff. Yes, there are imitations but for RMB250, people can afford to buy the real Mc Coy...

I like wearing crocs... am wearing one which looks like a normal slipper without the backstrap. However, I would rather invest in Nike (NKE) which has a much stronger brand than Crocs (CROX), given my style of investment.
