Ark's Cathie Wood explains how bitcoin could increase by $400,000

“We have been expecting institutions to start moving into Bitcoin and other crypto assets, but primarily bitcoin".

According to Ark’s Big Ideas for 2021, if all S&P 500 companies were to allocate 1% of their cash to bitcoin, its price could increase by approximately $40,000.

If those companies moved 10% of their cash to bitcoin, Ark sees the cryptocurrency climbing by $400,000.

“Bitcoin is only [at] roughly a $600 billion market cap,” Wood says. “So even half the size of Apple or Amazon, right now. Doesn't that put it into perspective? And yet, it is a very big idea, I think. A much bigger idea than Apple or Amazon.”

Wood founded ARK in 2014 to invest in "disruptive innovation."

By 2018, it had $1.2 billion under management. By the beginning of 2020, ARK had $3.1 billion under management.

The world went nuts for its products in 2020 and today, it manages $54 billion.

Just look at the names of the exchange-traded funds ("ETFs") it offers, and you'll understand why FOMO-addled investors are shoving money at it as fast as they can...

We must not confuse a bull market with brains...

Wood has the wind at her back. And she should get a lot of credit for what she's built.

But the fat lady never sings in the stock market. There's always a "What next?" to answer. And what's next is a horrendous crashing sound in the vicinity of ARK's ETF offerings.

That's due to the precise manner in which Wood and ARK are making hay while the sun shines...

To anyone who knows even a little market history, it's as if Wood and her team went back to the great financial crisis, tried to figure out how the bankers almost broke the system while making themselves piles of money, chose today to ignore the "broke the system" part of the outcome, and are doing it all over again.

New technology is upending everything in finance, from saving to trading to making payments.

ARK (which stands for Active Research Knowledge) is looking beyond the market’s short-term to- and fro-ing and trying to anticipate what will happen in five years or beyond;

Wood called for Tesla stock to climb to $4,000 when it was trading at $300 in 2018, a shockingly bold prediction to make on the big news networks. (Tesla shares are now trading around $3,600, after accounting for a five-to-one share split in August.)

ARK says it looks across industries by focusing on five key technologies, or “platforms”: artificial intelligence, energy storage, robotics, DNA sequencing, and blockchain technology.

ARK is only looking for companies involved in “disruptive innovation,” rather than incumbent firms.

“Because the cost of the technology is falling so severely, the size of the market can be dramatically different five years from now than it is this year,”
