Project Vault, will combine US$1.67 billion in private funding with a US$10 billion loan from the US Export-Import Bank to acquire and stockpile the minerals for automakers, technology companies and other manufacturers.
The project has attracted participation from more than a dozen companies, including General Motors, Stellantis , Boeing, Corning, GE Vernova and Alphabet’s Google.
Commodities trading firms Hartree Partners, Traxys North America and Mercuria Energy Group, would manage the procurement of raw materials for the stockpile.
