Germany insists countries that borrowed far more than they could afford must cut public expenses and reduce debt. But Greece obviously cannot keep this promise.

Dr Check is afraid that, before the June 17 elections in Greece, Athens will have to announce its exit from the euro zone.

Since the country's May 5 elections, at least 5 billion euros (HK$49 billion) may have been sent abroad.

And this week, apparently 700 million to 800 million euros have been withdrawn daily.

At this rate, Greece may not have many depositors left.

If Greece exits, Portugal, Spain and Italy will find it difficult to refinance their sovereign debt.

You can imagine the chain effect.

And it is difficult to guess how far fear can push global equity markets lower.

US slaps big duties on Chinese solar cells by Paul Handley

The United States slapped hefty anti-dumping duties on Chinese solar cell makers Thursday, in a move likely to heighten trade tensions between the two global economic powers.

The Commerce Department said it had found that Chinese solar cell producers and exporters had been selling solar cells into the United States at artificially low prices, meriting anti-dumping duties of between 31 percent and 250 percent.

It named Suntech Power, the world's largest maker of solar cells, and another large producer, Trina Solar, as key offenders, but said at least 59 other Chinese companies would also be hit with anti-dumping charges.

The ruling follows a March decision that China was unfairly subsidizing solar cell exports and set counterveiling duties of 2.9 percent to 4.7 percent.
Sales to the US solar cell and solar panel market were worth $3.1 billion to Chinese producers last year, according to the Commerce Department.

Under the new ruling, Suntech, also called Wuxi Suntech, and Trina would both see 31 percent anti-dumping duties.

The duties also cover panels and modules made in other countries using Chinese solar cells.

Another Chinese company, Yingli Solar, also defended its business practices.

Grammy-winning disco legend Donna Summer died yesterday after a battle with cancer, the TMZ celebrity news website reported.

The singer, who was 63, shot to fame in the 1970s with hits including Hot Stuff and Bad Girls, before songs like She Works Hard for the Money in the 1980s. She died in Florida.

"Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith," her family said in a statement.

"While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.

Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."

Summer and producer Giorgio Moroder defined the dance music era of the 1970s.

The entire world is waiting with bated breath for a star-studded, heavy-weight astronomical event: May 20 (PDT)/ May 21 (IST) when a solar eclipse occurs from 4:24 - 6:42 pm (PDT), peaking at 4:47 p.m. (PDT).

At that moment our Earth, Moon, and Sun line up with the great central Sun, Alcyone, in the Pleiadian Star System. It takes our Sun 25,920 years to circle around this system. This marks the end of one cycle of existence and the beginning of a new one.

Jump Start the Light Body

The Pleiadian system is where the Photon Belt is located. Alcyone (also called the Central Sun) is in the Photon Belt all the time. Our local galaxy has just moved into this belt. This Photon Belt has been outside our solar system for a long time and now it is inside our system, and intensely impacting Earth.

Photon Light vibrates at a very high frequency. It has been stimulating our Sun and effecting intense solar flares, solar storms and mass coronal ejections.

Tony Chan Chun-chuen has asked that the forgery case against him be dropped on grounds that the evidence has been tampered with beyond recognition.

The self-styled fung shui guru was arrested and charged with forgery last year after he lost the high-profile probate battle for the HK$100 billion estate of late Chinachem tycoon Nina Wang Kung Yu- sum, who Chan claimed was his lover.

Ruling the will presented by him as fake, the High Court in February 2010 granted the Wang billions to the Chinachem Charitable Foundation - run by her siblings.

But defense lawyer Alan Hoo Hong- ching told an Eastern Court magistrate that key evidence, including the 2006 "fake" will and its draft, has been tampered with by fingerprint and DNA tests ordered by the prosecution.

"It is a completely different document now," Hoo said on day two of a pre- trial hearing and argued for a permanent stay as "a fair trial is no longer possible."
